George Hancock George began his woodworking career at an early age. "When I was about 7 years old, my grandfather would invent all sorts of 'projects' to keep me busy. I remember to this day hammering away at his nailing block." He eventually progressed to more demanding projects.

George worked for several different builders in order to learn as much as possible about carpentry and woodworking. These experiences also gave him a very clear picture of what was considered "good enough" in the trade.

Striking out on his own in 1974, George was now in position to set his own standard of quality. "Perfect is close enough," is how one of Earthwood's clients puts it. While George insists that they're not perfect, he readily admits that Earthwood's standards are very high -- and that goes for the quality of workmanship and the level of professionalism exhibited by each and every member of the team.

"I have always had the vision of a cooperative group of craftsmen working together to produce very high quality work. I believe the team we have now fulfills that vision. The icing on the cake is that they are all exceptional people, too.  My current goal is to use sustainable products and building techniques for our field projects and cabinet shop."

George enjoys spending time with his wife Jan, and children Jeremy and Kate, playing guitar, sitting quietly - anywhere, camping, kayaking and hiking and of course, personal carpentry and woodworking projects.
